Data monetisation has been a recurring theme at various seminars and events that I have attended or spoken at over the last few years.

Personally, I welcome some of the consumer protection legislation, such as PoPIA, that are designed to protect me from the unscrupulous sale of my data.

Ask yourself the question – “Would I be comfortable if this information about me was given to my bank, to my boss, or to a pushy telesales rep?”

Companies looking to monetise data need to balance the need to protect their reputation by protecting their customer’s personal data.
